Pangur Ban Print
Pangur Ban, my cat, 'tis a like task we are at:
Hunting mice is his delight. Hunting words I sit all night.

-- "Pangur Ban", 9th century

GaelSong Exclusive! Monks of the Middle Ages were not all chant and no play. The light-hearted poem "Pangur Ban" shows one 9th-century monk's delight in his feline companion, fancifully comparing the cat's chasing mice to his own pursuit of knowledge. Here, artist Kevin Dillon illuminates the verse in the manner of monastic scribes. Gilded-vine frame, shown here, has easel back and hanger, 9" x 11". Also available in rustic wood frame (10 1/2" x 12 1/2") or unframed (8" x 10"). Click here for an example of the rustic wood frame.

Pangur Ban  The frame really compliments the print, which is beautiful. I love it and my friends do too! – R. Shima, 2018-09-05

Gorgeous print  This print is very meaningful to me because I've loved this poem from an early age, and because I've often thought I'd still be perfectly happy if all our tech was taken away from us, but I still had paints and brushes and pens and parchment and my cats, just like the monks of old. Gorgeous calligraphy and illuminations. I got it in the gilded frame. – Rowana, 2016-07-29

Delightful! I love this item two ways: I love illumined manuscripts, and I love writing--and know the feeling of 'chasing words all night." It's a fun way to focus on both! May order another as a gift for a writer friend. – Pam Peterson, 2016-01-25

Pangur Ban in a rustic frame As a retired high school English teacher, this print means a great deal to me. I taught my seniors in British literature about the monks transcribing night and day. The exquisite little poem written by a monk in the margin of his work about his cat Pangur Ban is beautifully presented. I love the rustic frame! – Teresa Rose, 2015-05-07

Beautiful I bought this for my artist cousin for Christmas. I wasn't expecting much. However when it came I knew I had bought the perfect present. It looks and is very authentic (also if you order it unframed its still framed) I am very happy with my purchase!! – Margaret Erickson, 2012-11-29

Stunning Pangur Ban was one of the reasons I became an illuminator, and this recreation is just stunning. It sits on my desk to keep me inspired. – Rhea, 2012-06-19
