The small workshop of Andrew McGavin Designs has the homespun feeling of an artisan’s shop of days gone by, but uses modern materials to fashion their products.
First, a piece is designed; a contemporary interpretation of ancient design. Then, a form is made for producing the design in cast stone.
Cast stone pieces evoke the look and feel of ancient carved stone, but can, of course, be made much more quickly.

Casting begins with an empty pot into which resin is poured. Various ingredients are then added; unique blends of stone to produce different textures. A surprising array of materials is used—says Andrew, "sometimes it would be a beautiful red sand from a local beach, or coal dust from our coal deliveryman's yard."
"We also use pure pigment for color and stir it all up into a smelly, gooey mess. Bubbles are then removed and we wait for the mixture to set. The final result is an exclusive Andrew McGavin design."
